DIRECT: a European initiative for a more responsible use of digital technologies

The Ruse Chamber of Commerce and Industry presents the first official press release on the project DIRECT - Digital Responsibility Education and Training, a three-year European initiative co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme. The project brings together eight partner organisations from six European countries with the common goal of promoting the responsible use of digital technologies through education, training and lifelong learning.

In today's increasingly digital world, ethical challenges related to technology have become an integral part of our daily lives. They affect the way we work, learn, communicate, make decisions, and interact with society and the environment. It is in this context that the concept of „"digital responsibility"“ is gaining increasing importance. It encompasses the values, principles and behaviors that guide the ethical design, development and use of digital technologies for the benefit of people, society and the planet.

DIRECT was launched in response to the need to build competencies that will help both learners and educators navigate confidently and responsibly in a rapidly changing digital environment. The project will work to raise awareness of the societal and environmental consequences of digitalization, to encourage critical thinking and ethical reflection among learners, and to provide innovative tools for educators to integrate digital responsibility into their practice.

At the same time, DIRECT will promote responsible innovation and digital entrepreneurship, with a special emphasis on developing skills that are aligned with both societal values and future labor market needs. At the heart of this mission is the aspiration for a future where digital technologies serve people, not the other way around.

The project will develop a comprehensive set of practical tools and resources. Key deliverables include: Digital Responsibility Competency Framework, based on real ethical dilemmas; innovative learning paths and multilingual learning modules; intelligent skills analysis mechanism, which will identify individual gaps and recommend appropriate training modules; and interactive online platform, which will provide access to flexible and inclusive digital responsibility training.

The project is aimed at a wide audience - students, interns and young professionals, lecturers from the field of higher and vocational education and continuing training, as well as representatives of the labor market, the public sector and the technological and innovation communities.

He is the coordinator of DIRECT Aristotle University of Thessaloniki„, and the Ruse Chamber of Commerce and Industry is part of the international consortium that will work to transform digital responsibility into a practically applicable competency for education, professional development and public life.

The project also contributes to key European priorities in the areas of digital education, skills development, inclusion, accessibility and sustainability, placing digital responsibility among the important elements of the future ethical digital transformation.
