AGROBIOINSTITUTE (ABI) was established in 2000. ABI is the legal successor of the Central Laboratory of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Biotechnology (Genetic Engineering), established in 1985 at the Agricultural Academy, renamed as the Central Laboratory of Genetic Engineering, which grew in 1989 into Institute of Genetic Engineering. Since 2003, the seat of ABI has been in the Faculty of Biology of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". The main task of ABI is to conduct fundamental research in the field of cellular, functional and molecular genetics in order to solve problems with a practical orientation.
