Digital Twin on Smart Manufacturing project partnership meeting in Turin, Italy

On 28 and 29 May 2024, the first Transnational Partnership Meeting of the "Digital Twin on Smart Manufacturing" project took place at the Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy. The project, funded by the Erasmus+ programme, brings together technological progress and digital innovation, focusing on the development and implementation of virtual counterparts – a key element in the transformation of industrial processes.

The Ruse Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) plays a key role in the "Digital Twin on Smart Manufacturing" project. RCCI is a leader in dissemination, exploitation and sustainability activities, which includes project branding and visual identification (logo, brochures, etc.) and implementation of dissemination activities and reports. RCCI has also created the project's website, which is available at https://digitaltwinproject.eu/.

The "Digital Twin on Smart Manufacturing" project has the potential to have a significant impact on the local community in Ruse and the region. It provides new opportunities for local enterprises to implement the latest technologies in their production processes, thus increasing their competitiveness in the international market. Through the training courses and seminars offered within the project, employees and technicians from local companies will have access to the latest knowledge and skills in the field of digitization and industrial automation.

The project is in synergy with the other RCCI activities aimed at supporting the member companies. The Chamber actively supports local enterprises by providing consultations, organizing trainings and seminars, as well as participating in various initiatives aimed at innovation and development. The Digital Twin on Smart Manufacturing project complements these efforts by providing concrete solutions and resources for the implementation of digital technologies in manufacturing.

The project aims to reduce machine commissioning times, solve design problems before machines are built, and reduce waste from manufacturing activities through virtual commissioning. This will lead to a new way of thinking that will replace the existing industrial workflow in several key aspects:

  • Reduction of commissioning time: Simulating the operation of the machine before building it.
  • Solving design problems in advance: Verification of production times and work cycles, hardware and software testing.
  • Waste reduction: Reduce errors and modifications during installation.
  • Improve production processes: Analysis and processing of data obtained from the digital double.
  • Improving technical support: Virtual support of machines and production lines.

The partnership involves the participation of multiple organisations from different countries who provide valuable resources and expertise for its successful implementation. Their joint work is essential to achieve the goals of "Digital Twin on Smart Manufacturing" and the implementation of innovations in industrial processes.

By the end of June 2024, several key tasks are expected to be completed, including the preparation of quality reports, the development of a digital twin training program and the finalization of financial statements. The work of all partners will continue in full force to ensure the successful implementation of the project and the achievement of the set goals.
