Ruse business conquered the rankings: "Astra Bioplant" became vice champion in "Capital 100"

The year 2022 brought significant changes to the economic landscape of Bulgaria, with the most important sector turning out to be energy – the revenues of the top 30 companies in it jumped by 105%. Construction, despite its important place in the economy, was the only sector with a decline, the contraction in the top 25 companies was 5% due to the lack of new large government contracts.

The growth in machinery factories and software companies is also impressive - they are developing on average with 29% and 19% respectively. More moderate, but again high, is the revenue growth of The 300 largest companies in Bulgaria, as they increase with 50% to total BGN 165.8 billion. This is as much as the entire GDP of the country for 2022.

But looking closer, we see that one company from Ruse stands out against these giants.

Astra bioplant", a leading producer of biodiesel and oils, borrows the second position in the "Capital 100" ranking, taking the place from much larger and better-known companies. For this relatively small but dynamic company, established in 2005 by Stanko Stankov, this is a great success. In 2022, “Astra bioplant” generates revenue from BGN 7.7 billion, which places it in second place in the overall ranking and at the top of the "Fuels" sector, ahead of "Lukoil Bulgaria".

With this achievement, “Astra bioplant" and the other key company of the group - "Bulmarket DM", a propane-butane trader with revenues of BGN 1.1 billion, in total they are even bigger than the oil extraction plant "Aurubis Bulgaria", which occupies the leading position in the ranking.

These successes not only confirm that Ruse business is an important player in the Bulgarian economy, but also demonstrate the unique spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship that lives in Ruse.

The representatives of The Rousse Chamber of Commerce and Industry we are proud of these results and of the important role that "Astra bioplant" and "Bulmarket DM" play in the development of the regional and national economy. This highlights the importance of local businesses and calls for more support and attention to their work and development. All this reminds us that the real strength of the Bulgarian economy comes from within and that every city and region has a role in its overall development and success.
