Science in the City FRESHER: Why does the bear sleep in winter and not in summer? Hibernation in animals

This presentation by Venceslav Petkov from the Regional History Museum - Ruse will give us answers to the following questions: what is the reason for falling into a state of hibernation; does this guarantee a successful experience of the unfavorable winter months; which animals in Bulgaria go into hibernation and are there any that go into summer sleep.

Science in the City FRESHER: Artificial intelligence, robotics and unmanned aerial vehicles

With Ch. Dr. Diyana Kinaneva from the Department of Telecommunications of the "Angel Kanchev" University of Ruse, we will talk about artificial intelligence, neural networks and computer vision in combination with unmanned aerial vehicles. We will learn more about the applications of drones in different walks of life and how they can help us in fighting natural disasters like fires.

We will talk about gold finds in graves during the late Stone-Copper Age (4500-4100 BC) in the northeastern part of the Balkan Peninsula. Dr. Dimitar Chernakov from the Regional History Museum - Ruse will tell why these finds are so rare and where they were made.

Science in the City FRESHER: How is a hologram made?

Intriguing presentation by Prof. Dr. Georgi Hristov from the Department of Telecommunications of the University of Ruse "Angel Kanchev", which will demonstrate how holographic displays, applications with augmented and virtual reality (AR&VR), Ultra HD 4K filming and laser 3D scanners are used for the preservation of cultural and historical heritage.

Through fun experiments, we will learn trivia about plants, see how we can "color" a flower and make a waterproof paper cup with the team of educational initiative "Shurata Laboratory".

Deyan Dragoev from the Regional History Museum - Ruse will introduce us to the world of ancient coins minted in Nicopolis ad Istrum (the Roman city of victory), which tell stories about emperors and deities, animals, ancient statues and architectural monuments.

Science in the City FRESHER: Scan me a coin

Popularization of the cultural and historical heritage through applications for augmented and virtual reality will be presented by Dr. Plamen Zahariev from the Department of Telecommunications of the Angel Kanchev University of Ruse. We will learn about the different types of 3D scanners and how they work, see examples of their application and find out if we can scan coins.

We will find out what place ecological education occupies in the educational program of the tourism high school in the city of Ruse; how the science of cooking promotes ecological cultivation of plants and herbs and the secret of old, authentic Bulgarian dessert and pie recipes from organic products grown in grandma's garden: white corn, bulgur, cheese, yogurt, spinach and eggs.

The chemists from the Rapid Thunder Corps at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy of the University of St. Kliment Ohridski" invite you to a scientific pun of thunder and crackling, chemical experiments and demonstrations. Oh, thunder and lightning!
